Goshen, Ind. – The Huntington University volleyball team took care of business Wednesday night, rolling past Crossroads League opponent Goshen in straight sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-13). The win lifts the Foresters to 14-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Huntington controlled the match with a balanced offense and steady defense. Maggie Hollon paced the Foresters with 12 kills on .308 hitting, while Maisyn Robrock added 10 kills and Leah Carter chipped in seven at a .312 clip. As a team, Huntington swung at a .240 efficiency, including a sharp .357 in the final frame to seal the sweep.
Setter Kennedy Urban directed the offense with 16 assists, while Lauren Ross contributed 15 assists and a pair of aces. Behind the service line, the Foresters kept the Maple Leafs off balance, piling up nine aces overall, highlighted by four from Olivia Krahn.
On the defensive side, Huntington limited Goshen at the net by tallying nine team blocks. Layla Meyer anchored the back row with 15 digs, while the defense combined for seven block assists at the net.
The Maple Leafs (5-12, 1-6 CL) were led by Brenna Spangler with five kills, but Goshen managed just a .061 hitting percentage against the Huntington chopping block.
"I am grateful that we finished this one in three sets. We had to adjust to a slower tempo and by set three we had found our rhythm," said Coach Kelsey Herber. "I thought our setters moved the ball around well and I appreciated how our defense was reading well at the net and in the back court."
The Foresters return to action on Saturday when they host Grace College inside Platt Arena at 1:00 p.m.
