Mokma joins Huntington softball staff

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University head softball coach Tim Averill has announced the addition of Miranda Mokma to his coaching staff.

"I can't wait for our players to get to know Coach Miranda," said Averill. "I am confident she will bring a wealth of knowledge from her time on the softball field and help guide our team towards being winners off the field as well."

Mokma enters her first season of coaching at the collegiate level. She most recently coached swimming at Holland Christian School and coached travel softball for the Emmaus Youth Association.

With the Foresters, Mokma's duties will include working with the outfielders on the defensive side of the ball. On the offensive side, she will focus on the speed element of the game with the slap hitters and baserunners. In addition to her on-field duties, Mokma will assist with recruiting and help coordinate social media accounts.

A 2016 graduate of Emmaus High School in eastern Pennsylvania, Mokma was a four-year starter as a second baseman and outfielder. She was a Second Team All-Conference honoree, earned 2016 Morning Call All Area Team and All-Lehigh Valley Live shoutouts, while earning Scholar-Athlete accolades. Mokma was also a standout in the swimming pool where she swam the freestyle and butterfly as a four-time district qualifier.

Mokma continued her softball career at the University of Delaware having appeared in 95 games as a Blue Hen and finishing her three-year career with a .253 batting average at the NCAA Division 1 level. She was named to the All-CAA Honor Roll in 2017 and 2018, while in 2019 she earned Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete accolades.

Since graduating from the University of Delaware in three years with a Sports Marketing degree, Mokma started working for TeamSnap in the customer success department and now excels as an engagement & retention marketing associate. She lives in Huntington with her husband Mike Mokma, the pitching coach for the Huntington University baseball team.
