Foresters Make History with Three NAIA All-Americans

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The historic season for the Huntington University men's tennis team added another chapter this week as three Foresters earned NAIA All-American recognition, a feat unmatched in program history.

Coming into the season, only five players in program history had earned All-American honors. This spring alone, Huntington nearly doubled that total.

Graduate student Julian Tantera headlined the group as a Second Team All-American after anchoring the Foresters at No. 1 singles throughout the year. The Cordoba, Argentina native climbed as high as No. 11 in the ITA singles rankings while posting a 21-6 singles record and an 21-7 doubles mark.

Joining Tantera on the national stage was Santiago Sarudiansky, who earned Honorable Mention All-American distinction following a dominant campaign at primarily No. 3 singles.

Sarudiansky went undefeated in Crossroads League singles play and finished the year with a stellar 23-3 overall singles record. He also added a 6-3 doubles ledger in limited action.

Graduate student Martin Capdevilla rounded out the trio as an Honorable Mention selection. The Mendoza, Argentina native was a force in the middle of the lineup at No. 2 singles, compiling a 18-5 singles record to go along with a 16-6 doubles mark.

Tantera, Sarudiansky and Capdevilla were also named All-Crossroads League performers alongside freshman Mateo Batista as the Foresters pieced together one of the greatest seasons in program history.

Huntington rolled through conference play with a perfect 9-0 record to claim the Crossroads League regular season championship before finishing runner-up at the league tournament.

The Foresters secured an at-large berth to the NAIA National Championship for the second consecutive season and entered the national tournament as the No. 10 seed. HU opened nationals with a convincing 4-1 win over No. 23 Oakland City before eventually bowing out to No. 7 Lindsey Wilson by a 4-2 final.

The Foresters wrapped up their memorable season with a 21-5 overall record.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 181 NAIA All-America honors and 631 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
