Matthew Thompson joined the sidelines of the HU men's soccer's program in the spring of 2026 as the full-time assistant coach.

In addition to serving as the lead assistant, Thompson will take on a multifaceted role within the program. He will serve as the head coach of the Foresters’ reserve team, coordinate ID and team camps, assist in recruiting efforts and help manage the athletic facility.

A native of Greenfield, Thompson joins the Foresters after spending last season as an assistant coach at Franklin College. Prior to that, he served as the boys soccer head coach at Greenwood Christian Academy, where he guided the program to an impressive runner-up finish at the IHSAA 1A Boys Soccer State Championship.

Thompson has also gained valuable club experience, coaching with St. Francis Soccer Club in Indianapolis and Hoosier FC in Noblesville. In addition, he has worked as a personal trainer at Sogility.

Thompson began his collegiate playing career as a midfielder at Anderson University before transferring to Grace College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history. He also holds both a U.S. Soccer Federation C and D coaching license.
