Foresters Fire on All Cylinders in 3-0 Shutout at LTU

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Huntington men's soccer team strung together its second straight win in convincing fashion with a 3-0 shutout at Lawrence Tech Saturday night under the lights at Blue Devil Stadium. With the result, the Foresters (2-3-2) also notched their second consecutive clean sheet behind senior keeper Jorge Gonzalez, who turned away five shots to secure the shutout.

HU wasted little time setting the tone. In the 21st minute, Landon Moreland pounced on his own deflected shot and slipped the ball to Thiago Fernando, who calmly buried the chance for the early 1-0 lead. The pressure continued after halftime, and just four minutes into the second period, Kovan Drenth forced a Blue Devil own goal to double the advantage. The final tally came in the 72nd minute when Nick Butler floated a cross into the box that Jonathan Ruiz rose above his defender to head into the upper 90, putting the game out of reach.

Saturday's win mirrors last year's result when HU also blanked Lawrence Tech, 1-0, to extend its clean sheet streak against the Blue Devils. Now riding momentum with back-to-back victories, the Foresters turn their attention to one last non-conference test when they host Saint Xavier next Saturday at 6:00 p.m. before Crossroads League play begins September 24 against Marian.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 181 NAIA All-America honors and 631 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
