Early Goals Sink (RV) HU in Physical Battle with Holy Cross

HUNTINGTON, Ind. - A physical battle at King Stadium on Saturday afternoon went the way of visiting Holy Cross as the #RV Huntington men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision.

The Saints wasted no time putting HU on its heels, capitalizing on a defensive miscue in the six-yard box just over a minute into the match to net the eventual game-winner from point-blank range. They doubled their advantage midway through the first half and carried the two-goal cushion into the break.

Despite the early deficit, the Foresters showed resilience, turning up the pressure in the second half. HU generated nine shots after intermission to finish with a 15-10 shot advantage while also dominating the corner count 8-3 with all but one coming in the final 45 minutes. But their efforts came up empty as Holy Cross' defense and goalkeeper Isaias Rubio stood tall to preserve the clean sheet.

With the loss, Huntington moves to 0-2-1 on the year, while the Saints improve to 1-1. Coach Potter and his crew have a short turnaround to regroup as they're on their home turf again Monday evening to host #19 Indiana Tech at 6:00 p.m.

The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 181 NAIA All-America honors and 631 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
