Foresters kick off second round of CL action with 3-1 win over USF
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Huntington volleyball team kicked off second round of league play with a 3-1 win over Saint Francis, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-19, Saturday afternoon at Hutzell Athletic Center. The win not only wraps up the regular season sweep, it is also HU's fourth straight win over USF.
The Foresters had their work cut out for them as they dropped the first set. Herber and crew responded, which is never on the road in the Crossroads League, by winning the next three to snuff out any hope the hosts had of snapping a seven-game losing skid they brought into the contest.
Haley Kruse took team-high kill honors with 15 in addition to collecting ten digs for the double double. Maisyn Robrock and Leah Carter each tallied eight kills while Nigella Reck added six.
Morgan Robrock did a little bit of everything for her team by posting 36 assists, seven digs, five kills and 1.5 blocks.
It was a whole crew that took responsibility for defense with Olivia Krahn topping HU with 15. In addition to Kruse's double-digit digs, Layla Meyer and Lauren Ross also were busy picking up digs to the tune of 14 and 11 respectively.
"I'm always grateful for a win," said Coach Kelsey Herber. "We had some changes in our line-up today, and we did a good job adapting. Haley Kruse did an excellent job attacking the line, and I thought Olivia Krahn played fantastic defense."
With this win, Huntington improves to 13-8 overall, 4-6 in league play. The Foresters have their work cut out for them on Wednesday when they host #3 IWU at 7:00 p.m.
