Miller’s Medalist Honors Lead HU to Runner-Up Finish in Spring Opener
KODAK, Tenn. - The #RV Huntington women's golf team opened its spring campaign with an impressive showing, finishing second out of eight teams at the second annual Island Pointe Collegiate hosted by Defiance at Island Pointe Golf Club in Kodak, Tennessee.
Freshman standout Magnolia Miller headlined the Foresters' performance by capturing low medalist honors in a field of 42 golfers. The Greenwood native carded a two-round score of 154 (+10) after opening with a 75 on Thursday and following with a 79 on Friday, finishing seven strokes clear of the runner-up.
The victory marks Miller's third tournament win of the season, setting a new Huntington program record for individual wins in a single season.
As a team, the Foresters showed steady improvement over the two-day event, posting a 680 total after firing a 343 in Thursday's opening round before trimming six strokes with a 337 in Friday's finale to secure runner-up honors.
Riley Kitson also turned in a strong performance, finishing sixth overall with a 171 (92-79) while Aniyah Copeland landed in eighth place after posting a 174 (85-89). Madelyn Weaver recorded a 181 (94-87) to take 18th place, while Myleigh Moon rounded out Huntington's lineup with a 191 (99-92) to tie for 24th.
Olivet Nazarene claimed the team title with a 664, followed by Huntington (680), Aquinas (703) and William Penn (717). Tiffin (755), Spartanburg (769), Defiance (783) and Earlham (818) completed the standings.
Next up for Coach Patrick Davis and the Foresters is the Midway Eagle Invitational on March 30–31 at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
