Shaw Lands Left-Handed Opposite Alvaro Gonzalez Perez

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Huntington University head men's volleyball coach Ken Shaw continues to add talent and depth to the Foresters' inaugural varsity roster with the signing of Oakland City transfer Alvaro Gonzalez Perez for the 2026-27 season.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Gonzalez Perez brings two years of collegiate experience to Huntington after competing for OCU. The 6-foot-4 opposite gives the Foresters another dynamic attacking option on the right side, utilizing his left-handed swing to create matchup challenges for opposing defenses.

"We are thrilled to welcome Alvaro to Huntington," said Shaw. "He is a talented left-handed opposite. His speed, athleticism, and high volleyball IQ make him an exciting addition to our program, and I can't wait to see the impact he'll make on the court and in our culture."

Prior to his collegiate career, Gonzalez Perez attended Colegio Punta Galea High School and honed his skills with Club Voleibol Leganés, one of Spain's premier volleyball organizations based in Madrid. His experience competing at a high level both internationally and collegiately provides an added layer of maturity and versatility to Huntington's growing roster.

The signing is another significant step in Shaw's efforts to build a competitive program as the Foresters prepare for their first season as an official NAIA varsity sport. Gonzalez Perez joins a recruiting class that features talent from across the globe, further strengthening Huntington's foundation heading into its historic debut campaign.

After spending the past two years competing as a club program, Huntington men's volleyball is set to begin varsity competition in 2026-27. The Foresters will get their first taste of action on November 12 when they travel to Aquinas for a preseason scrimmage before opening their inaugural spring season.
