Barrioneuvo arrives in Huntington with a wealth of collegiate experience and a decorated résumé after spending time at both Campbellsville University and Oakland City University.
His collegiate career began at Campbellsville where he helped the Tigers capture the Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship before transferring to Oakland City. Barrioneuvo's efforts earned him national recognition during the 2025 season. He was named to the NCCAA National Championship All-Tournament Team and later garnered Second Team NCCAA All-American honors.
Last season, he played a pivotal role in leading Oakland City to a 21-10 record and a berth in the River States Conference Tournament Championship match.
"We're excited to welcome Gastón to the Forester family," said Shaw. "He is going to bring instant leadership and competitiveness to our growing Huntington University team."
Barrioneuvo joins a Huntington program entering a historic chapter. After competing as a club sport for the past two years, the Foresters will officially transition to varsity status in 2026-27 and begin competing as a member of the NAIA.
The program's first varsity action is slated for November 12 when Huntington travels to Aquinas for a preseason scrimmage before opening its inaugural campaign in the spring of 2027.
