HU Opens Spring with Top-10 Finish at Island Pointe
KODAK, Tenn. - The HU men's golf team opened its spring campaign at the Island Pointe Collegiate hosted by Defiance at Island Pointe Golf Club in Kodak, Tennessee, finishing eighth in a 17-team field.
The Foresters posted a two-day total of 652, firing a 323 in Thursday's opening round before carding a 329 in Friday's finale.
Spartanburg Methodist captured the team title with a 612, followed by William Penn (627) and Spartanburg Methodist B (633). Maryville (634) and Olivet Nazarene (638) rounded out the top five while Toccoa Falls (639) and Indiana Tech (648) finished just ahead of the Foresters in seventh.
Individually, Carter Hall paced Huntington with a 158 (76-82) to finish 17th overall in a field of more than 90 golfers.
Steven Webb followed closely behind, tying for 23rd after posting a 160 (80-80).
Trey Spring finished tied for 35th with a 164 (83-81) while Mason Reeves and Josh Kling each recorded a 172 to tie for 60th place. Reeves turned in rounds of 84 and 88, while Kling posted 86s on both days.
Spartanburg Methodist's Evan Cheek claimed medalist honors after firing a 147 (72-75) to lead the field.
The Foresters will look to build on their spring opener when they return to action March 30-31 at the Midway Eagle Invitational hosted at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 181 NAIA All-America honors and 631 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
