Simmons Earns Weekly Honor After Dominant Shutout
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Graduate student Grant Simmons has been named the Crossroads League Baseball Pitcher of the Week after a dominant outing on the mound to lead #RV Huntington University over the weekend.
The 6-4 right-hander was electric in Huntington's 4-0 win over Spring Arbor, tossing a complete-game, nine-inning shutout. Simmons scattered just three hits, did not issue a walk and struck out five while facing only 30 batters on 103 pitches in a masterful performance.
His efficiency and command kept the Cougars off balance all game, as he allowed just three baserunners with only two advancing beyond first base. The outing marked one of the most dominant performances of the season on the mound for the Foresters.
Simmons' effort helped extend Huntington's win streak to 11 games, improving the Foresters to 34-9 overall and 24-8 in Crossroads League play.
Huntington returns to Forest Glen on Thursday to host Mount Vernon Nazarene University in its final regular season series.
