Foresters Unload: HU Drops 71 Runs in Series Sweep

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - After hanging 37 runs on Bethel Friday, the #16 Huntington baseball team came right back Saturday and piled on 34 more in a doubleheader sweep, 18-3, 16-3, at Jenkins Stadium to complete the four-game series sweep of the Pilots in emphatic fashion.

That's 71 runs in four games—and double digits in every single contest.

Game 1 – Huntington 18, Bethel 3 (7 innings)
Bethel came out swinging, using four hits in the opening frame to plate three runs and briefly match Huntington's early production. It didn't last.

The second inning belonged entirely to the Foresters - and it felt like it might never end.

HU erupted for 10 runs in the frame, combining timely hitting with relentless pressure. The Foresters finished the inning with five hits and four walks, capitalizing on five passed balls, two hit batters and a balk to break things wide open.

Cam Clarkson led the charge, going 3-for-6 with four RBI, while Owen Imel doubled twice and drove in a pair as part of a 2-for-3, three-run effort. Deklan Thompson added two hits and two RBI, and Zach Pelletier chipped in a two-run single. At the top, Jace Fowler reached base four times, on three walks, and scored three runs, while also driving in two.

The Foresters finished with 13 hits and just as many 13 walks.

On the mound, Grant Simmons settled in after the opening inning and slammed the door, allowing just four hits and three runs, all in the first inning, before offering four hitless, scoreless frames. He then handed things off to Carter Lile and Carter Wilkinson, who combined for two scoreless frames to close things out.

Game 2 – Huntington 16, Bethel 3
Different script. Same ending.

Huntington struck early again, plating five runs in the second inning, highlighted by Tanner Reinartz's RBI double and Fowler's three-run blast—the Foresters' lone homer of the day.

After Bethel trimmed the deficit to 6-3 midway through, HU delivered the knockout punch.

The Foresters exploded for eight runs in the sixth, fueled by extra-base damage. Keifer Wilson ripped a three-run double, while Reinartz matched him with a three-run double of his own, finishing with four RBI on the day.

Huntington totaled 12 hits, five for extra bases, and eight walks, showcasing a balanced attack up and down the lineup. Clarkson added two more hits and two RBI, while Pelletier and Owen Willard each recorded multi-hit efforts.

On the hill, Kai Newman earned the win, tossing 4.1 innings with three strikeouts, before a trio of relievers combined to hold Bethel to just three runs on seven hits.
