HU Completes 4–0 Weekend with Saturday Sweep of Tigers

Pelham, Ga. - The Forester baseball team put an emphatic stamp on its weekend Saturday afternoon at Pelham High School, sweeping Olivet Nazarene in a doubleheader to complete a 4–0 weekend against the Tigers.

HU rallied late to take game one, 7–5, before pulling away for a 6–3 win in the nightcap, improving to 6–1 on the season.

Game 1 – Huntington 7, Olivet Nazarene 5
The opener turned into a battle of patience and persistence, and the Foresters delivered when it mattered most.

After Olivet Nazarene jumped ahead in the first with a three-run inside-the-park home run, Huntington chipped away before exploding in the bottom of the sixth. Trailing 5–2, HU erupted for five runs on six hits to flip the script.

Owen Imel ignited the rally with a two-run double to tie the game at five, and moments later Jace Fowler delivered the knockout blow—a two-run double that put HU on top for good.

On the mound, Grant Simmons was dominant in his start, striking out 12 batters while allowing just one hit and three runs over five innings. Keegan Shovlain picked up the win with a scoreless sixth, and Dylan Eggl slammed the door with a 1-2-3 seventh to earn his second save of the weekend.

Huntington totaled 10 hits in the opener, led by Fowler and Cam Clarkson with two hits apiece. Fowler and Imel each drove in two runs as HU's offense delivered in the clutch.

Game 2 – Huntington 6, Olivet Nazarene 3
The nightcap followed a familiar script early, with ONU scoring first in the second inning. Huntington answered quickly in the third when Clarkson lined an RBI single to even the score.

The moment of the game came an inning later when RJ Anglin, better known for his work on the mound, collected the first hit of his Forester career—a run-scoring single in just his second collegiate at-bat—to give HU a 2–1 lead.

The Foresters broke things open in the sixth, pushing across four runs to take control. An error plated one, Braden Kauffman launched a two-run homer, and Fowler capped the inning with a solo shot to right.

Fowler stayed red-hot all game, going 3-for-4 with a home run to pace HU's offense. Kauffman, hitting ninth, finished with two RBI, while Huntington totaled nine hits in the win.

On the mound, Kai Newman gave HU a solid start before Aidan Micinski earned the win in relief, striking out six over three innings. The Forester staff, which also included Owen Willard logging the final out, combined for 10 strikeouts in the nightcap.

The Foresters travel to Kansas next for a four-game series at MidAmerica Nazarene on February 13–14.
