Foresters pack over 45,500 meals to donate to United With Love
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Monday evening more than 250 HU student-athletes, faculty, staff and members of the general student body and local community volunteered their time to pack 45,576 macaroni and cheese meals to be donated to United With Love food pantry in Huntington.
The Huntington University Student-Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) partnered with Million Meal Movement, an Indianapolis-based organization, for this meal-packing event to bolster efforts to serve the hungry in Huntington County.
"After seeing such positive results from this event last year, our SALT team wanted to host the event again," said HU Athletic Director Lori Culler. "It not only helps fill a need in our local community, it also strengthens bonds between our athletic teams and among others on campus and within our community.
"The Lord has been faithful in providing both volunteers and funds to help us make the biggest impact possible."
The SALT team would like to extend a special thank you to all those who donated funds for this event: Parkview Huntington Hospital, HU's Friesen Center, HU's Student Government Association, HU's Advancement Office, all 18 athletic teams, President Sherilyn Emberton and several faculty and staff who supported the event financially.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 154 NAIA All-America honors and 501 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington University is a comprehensive Christian college of the liberal arts offering graduate and undergraduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations.
