Kelham, Melby and Raby voted some of the best in the league
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The HU women's basketball team boasts two of the league's top ten players according to the preseason polls as announced by the Crossroads League office earlier today.
As the 2024 CL Freshman of the Year, sophomore Bailey Kelham was named preseason First Team All-League. The 5-8 guard averaged a team-best 17.4 points while also pulling down 4.0 rebounds and swiping 1.6 steals per night last season. In addition to being tabbed the best rookie in the league last year, she also earned a spot on the First Team and All-Freshmen Team.
Joining Kelham as a preseason First Team selection was senior Gabi Melby. The 5-5 guard, a Second Team All-League pick last winter, poured in 15.8 points per night for Maggard's crew. She also averaged a team-leading 4.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds. Through her first two seasons as a Forester, she has racked up 711 career points.
Sophomore Olivia Raby was also recognized by the league as a member of the preseason Second Team. The 6-1 center posted 10.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per outing and led the team in blocks with 31 last year and for her efforts was voted to the All-Freshmen Team.
The Foresters, who finished tied for fifth last season in the CL regular season standings, is picked to finish fourth in the league this year. IWU was voted the top team in the CL with Saint Francis and Marian predicted to finish second and third respectively.
Huntington kicks off the season at Indiana Tech on October 24 with tip-off slated for 7:00 p.m.
The Huntington University Foresters compete in 18 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past decade, Huntington has produced 160 NAIA All-America honors and 567 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
