Huntington Guts Out Road Win Over Bethel
Mishawaka, Ind. – The Huntington University volleyball team showed once again that grit travels well, grinding out a thrilling five-set road win at Bethel on Saturday afternoon (25-22, 14-25, 29-27, 21-25, 15-8). With the victory, the Foresters improve to 20-4 overall and 8-3 in Crossroads League play.
HU started strong with a .357 hitting clip in the opening set before enduring several swings of momentum from the Pilots. After dropping the second, the Foresters clawed their way to a dramatic extra-point win in the third and sealed the match with a dominant fifth set that showcased their composure and determination.
Freshman Maggie Hollon continued her standout season with a match-high 15 kills on .256 hitting. Haley Kruse delivered11 kills and four service aces, while Maisyn Robrock, Leah Carter, and Allie Boyer each contributed key points at the net.
Setters Lauren Ross and Kennedy Urban directed the offense with 29 and 16 assists, respectively, helping the Foresters hit .204 as a team. Layla Meyer anchored the defense with 20 digs, supported by Ava Myers (13) and Urban (15), as Huntington's back row kept rallies alive all afternoon.
"I am proud of our response and resiliency today," said head coach Kelsey Herber. "This team has an elite competitive drive that keeps them in every match. We made solid adjustments throughout the match and finished well when the game was on the line."
The Foresters now turn their attention to a big matchup Wednesday night, returning home to host No. 13 Mount Vernon Nazarene at 7:00 p.m. inside Platt Arena. Both teams enter the contest at 8-3 in Crossroads League play, tied for second place behind conference-leading Indiana Wesleyan.
